Bagging The Perfect Half-term Holiday Bargain

Since the advent of last minute holidays, budget airlines have made it easier than ever to escape the dreary world of the daily commute. With so many websites offering cheap deals to warmer climates, it is now less expensive to fly to an idyllic holiday destination like Rhodes than it is to buy a monthly train ticket back home.

Exploring Greece is on most peoples' bucket list. A beautiful and interesting country, the Hellenic Republic is steeped in history. Made up of hundreds of uniquely intriguing islands as well as the main peninsula that keeps it anchored to mainland Europe, it's a destination famous for it's colourful past and its gorgeous scenery.

For those who prefer to get out and about on holiday, there is a lot to see and do in this part of the world. As well as countless monuments depicting Greece's ancient civilised past, the surrounding limestone cliffs and perfect, clear seas invite intrepid outdoor enthusiasts to climb, parasail and dive to their hearts' content.

Travellers who are looking for the ideal family holiday to soak up some much needed sunshine might be pleasantly surprised by some of the destinations Portugal has to offer. Located on the Atlantic coastline to the very west of Europe, it's as hot as Spain but with its own unique attitude to life.

Portuguese food is something to savour and enjoy, from the sardines that can be found barbecued at 5am as the fishermen come home to port, to traditional Peri Peri marinades on a variety of fish and chicken. A laid back country that offers beautiful sandy beaches, an ocean well-suited to bodyboarding and surfing and cities like Porto with their own history to explore, Portugal really is worth visiting.

For a hot vacation, Turkey is the safest best there is. Heading somewhere tourist friendly yet still beautiful like Marmaris offers the heat and sunshine of a real sun-seeker escape, while simultaneously quelling any desires to travel further afield. A tropical paradise on it's own, it offers palm trees, white sand and turquoise at a fraction of the price.

Similar to Marmaris in that there are sandy beaches and blue seas in abundance, Salou on the coast of Spain is a budget holidaymaker's dream. Geared towards tourists for many years now, there is plenty to see and do. Salou has a fantastic bar scene for those who'd prefer to spend their nights winding down, but the surrounding countryside is also phenomenal.

Offering something for everyone, Salou is just the right blend of tourism and tradition that the budget tourist is looking for. Whatever it is you are looking for in a cheap getaway though, remmber, price isn't everything. There are some real diamonds in with the rough in and around the Mediterranean, you just have to search for them.
