US time-travel series 'Outlander' to bring jobs to Scotland

US time-travel series Outlander will reportedly bring 200 new jobs to Scotland.

A new television studio near Glasgow will also be constructed for the upcoming drama, according to BBC News.

Scottish actor Sam Heughan will play male lead Jamie Fraser, an 18th century Highlander who marries an English woman who has travelled back in time from 1946.

Heughan has also had roles in River City and Doctors.

US cable network Starz and global television studio Sony Pictures Television are behind the new series, which is due to start filming this year.

Jim Kohlberg and Ron Moore, who have worked on Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: The Next Generation, will write and produce the show, based on the best-selling books by Diana Gabaldon.
